iPhone 7 & 7 plus is it worth it ?

Just another year and we have two new iPhones! iPhone 7 & 7 plus and if you haven’t really heard of it,  it’s because you’ve been off the grid or living in cave or something like that! Nevertheless now that you know, let’s see if they really worth the money!

Caution ⚠ : Apple fan boys if you don’t like constructive criticism then this blog ends here for you.

So this calfornian company is ready once again to dominate smartphone market with its two new successors iPhone 7 &  7 plus and according to the reports it’s definitely going great with its pre-orders as they sold out just one day before it hits the store shelves. Without a doubt it’s one of the best smartphone in the world right now but has Apple done enough to deserve that crown?

Just like any other technology enthusiast I watched the keynote as apple unveiled iPhone 7 and 7 plus, and I was delighted to see some significant improvements which I think were due and for some I was disappointed.

So iPhone 7 and 7 plus comes with the  antenna bands on the edge of the back of phones which gives it much cleaner look and thank god I wanted it to happen since they launched iPhone 6! New iPhones comes in jet black (which is sold out everywhere), Matt black, rose pink and silver. By the way if you are going to purchase jet black variant, learn to live with scratches and smudges every now and then. The A10 fusion chip that powers iPhone 7 and 7 plus is a beast when it comes to performance, in fact I’d say it outshines every other smartphones in the market and yes that  include iPad pro! Gaming on this phone has also got better as apple includes 6 core GPU and GFX benchmarks don’t lie! It’s better than any other smartphone in the world right now.  The camera is another thing I’d beg to get my hands on new iPhones! Where iPhone 7 comes with same 12 MP shooter with OIS, iPhone 7 plus comes with dual 12 MP cameras and adds wide 56 mm telephoto lens that shoots stunning zoom photos that just takes smartphone photography to a whole new level. The battery performance on new iPhones is also increased by 2 hours and an hour on iPhone 7 and 7 plus respectively. When it  comes to innovation apple doesn’t hold back it horses as they’ve now removed 3.5 mm headphone jack which means a whole new headphone category for the manufactures around the world, but that doesn’t mean your old headphones won’t work with new iPhones as apple includes a lightning to 3.5 mm audio jack dongle that is included in every retail box. This year iPhone 7 and 7 plus comes with IP 67 certification which means it’s now dustproof and  waterproof up to 8 meters which means it can handle swoop in the swimming pool or in shower with ease!  This year apple noticed that 16 Gb as base variant isn’t going to cut for anyone so they’ve upped the storage by double so now it comes in 32 Gb, 128 Gb and 256 Gb WOW that’s a lot! Although jetblack variant only comes in 128 Gb and 256 Gb.I think that sums up everything good that comes with new iPhones. Like every coin has two sides this blog does too. Let me now tell you things that didn’t like.

Apple has removed the antenna bands from iPhones to the edges but that doesn’t mean the overall look of the device is changed, they still pretty much look & weigh same as old iPhone 6 and 6 plus, which I think is bummer simply because if we are moving up the number from 6 to 7 we deserve a brand new design. One can not distinguish between iPhone 7 and 7 plus and it’s predecessor unless you have stealthy Matt black variant!

I really want to remind  Apple that THIS IS year 2016 where every other Android flagship device comes with WQHD display (2K resolution), iPhone 7 and 7 plus has same old display resolution as iPhone 6 and 6 plus. Now most of you might say that this doesn’t make much of difference but hey put Samsung note 7 or galaxy S 7 EDGE in front of new iPhones and you’ll understand what I mean. Colours on super AMOLED just pop with much better contrast &  deep black. So assumimg that iPhone 7s and 7s plus will come with QHD resolution next year? No. I won’t bet on that! Well that’s just bad apple!

While people are spending more hours on their smartphones than any of the other personal devices such as tablets and laptops it’s a no brainer to include adequate battery to last full day. In the android world where Samsung has been doing it for years I don’t see why Apple can’t? I know that the new iPhones have significantly improved battery life but hey 1 hour and 2 hours more on iPhone 7 and 7 plus isn’t just going get you through the day if you are power user like me. Another thing that really annoyes me that Apple still yet to include fast charging in the iPhones, I mean I don’t want to keep carrying power bank or charger everywhere I go constantly reminding me that I might go out of juice.

Headphone jack

It’s the most talked about and missing feature on the current year’s iPhone. So Apple just took out headphone Jack in the name of innovation! Well, it created new headphone category for many while normal consumers aren’t really happy about it. Believe me you don’t want to be person who owns an expensive phone that doesn’t support normal thing like headphone jack. I mean this was a bold move from Apple but to be true it’s just pain in ass to carry that lightning to 3.5 mm audio jack dongle everywhere and if you loose it that little thing will cost you 9$ plus if you want to listen to music and charge your iPhone at the same time you just can’t unless you get an adapter that will cost you 42$ *Facepalm*

Eversince the news of Foxconn opening iPhone manufacturing plant in India, every Indian has dreamt of owning an iPhone at much cheaper price! Nevertheless as nothing of that happening any time soon, the dream has became a mare mirage for us. Where in US iPhone pricing starts from $645(₹42950) , in India it starts from ₹60,000 ($901) so we are roughly paying $300 more over US pricing which is just absurd. According to Apple CEO Tim Cook india’s tax structure is just too complicated for them to bring down prices of apple products. It’s clear that if Apple officially launches its stores in India they could bring down the prices closer to US pricings, however I don’t see it happening for another year.

I could go on and on with the rant and tell you how great or not so great new iPhones are but being realistic it has convinced me to go on another year without iPhone, may be samsung galaxy S 7 EDGE + iPad mini w/retina display could be on my purchase list. Only time will tell. ☺

Xiaomi Mi4

Switching from iOS to Android wasn’t easy. I had to give up perfect integration of software and hardware, however with iPhone 5 battery performance I faced disappointment and then after using moto g first gen for about 5-6 months I decided to give a chance to xiaomi’s latest flagship phone Mi4 hoping that this phone would change my prospective about android smartphones. Question was will this Chinese manufacturer company managed to do that?
The very first thing I noticed with xiaomi mi4 was that it got all the bits and bobs from Apple’s iPhone 5S. While Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun might not like it being called ‘Apple of China’ it screams and shouts to be one. Just like iPhone 5S xiaomi mi4 has metal band, chamfered edges, antenna bands, sim card tray, speakers placed at bottom to the core of its design. However similarities aren’t restricted to design of mi4 but software part too. If you’ve been using Jailbreaked iPhone or even ever used one you’ll love Mi4 as it has all the latest Jailbreak tweaks borrowed from a jailbreaked iPhone. Hugo Barra the vice president of xiaomi & the guy who worked on nexus devices for Google made sure that xiaomi mi4 to be the device that offers everything that jailbreaked iPhone does. MIUI on this phone is so neat and has an ability to change the overall appearance of UI from head to toe. This trick works wonders for Mi4 users as it’s gives  ability to make phone more personal. From being able to edit service provider’s name to changing toggle positions and managing notifications gives user more control over the phone & that indeed is unique.
While many other flagship phones of other companies have decent hardware in their phones xiaomi’s mi4 is a beast rocking 3GB RAM, 810 snapdragon processor that clocks 2.5 Ghz, Adreno 330 GPU &  comes with 16 Gb or 64 Gb on board storage to choose from. Yes this specs sheet matches to OnePlus One but that’s a whole different story. Despite being all the hardware goodness comes with the mi4 it fails to provide stock android experience like the nexus devices out there. Mi4 runs on android Kitkat 4.4.4 and still hasn’t got the lollipop update.
Camera on xiaomi mi4 might be one of those things that will not disappoint you. With 13MP on the back that has the ability to shoot ‘4K’ resolution videos and 8 MP on front you’re ready to click selfies all day long. Like tons of customisable options available in OS, stock camera app also give you many options & features such as 1/3” sensor size, 1.12µm pixel size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama, HDR.
Non-removable Li-Ion 3080 mAh Battery is another reason that will give a massive advantage for optimum users such as myself who keeps external batteries at hand when needed. However with Mi4 battery performance I don’t need to worry about all that. In fact battery performance on xiaomi mi4 is so impressive that you can easily spend one and half day and still left with enough battery to reach your charging unit to charge.
One question I’ve been asking myself is how does then this smartphone performs compare to other flagships smartphones out there? And obvious answer is it’s decent, good but it isn’t  quite there yet. On geekbench Mi4 scored 902 in single core and 2750 in multi-core where as Samsung’s galaxy devices such as S6 and edge has scored 1375 in a single core and 4951 in multi-core which gives us fair conclusion that devices like LG G4 &  Samsung galaxy s6 and edge are far ahead in the competition.
So what’s the verdict? Is this phone every bit of worth your penny? Answer is yes & no! In India Mi 4  priced at just 14999₹ exclusively on Flipkart which in my opinion is a steal. It could not have been better to get a phone such as xiaomi mi4 at this price point. However the problem lies with the software on this phone, it’s current ‘stable’ version has many bugs which ultimately affects the user experience.

Switching from iOS to android

Let me just start by saying that I’m the biggest admirer of iOS based devices since I purchased my first iPhone back in 2013. This new iPhone 5 was going to be my daily driver and I was loving every bit of it. Honestly I did thought there might be a learning curve involved but that’s the beauty of iOS devices that there’s nothing to learn, once you start using the device it makes you feel that getting things done on your smartphone couldn’t be easier.
Apparently a lot has happened  since the launch of iPhone 5 Smart phones have gotten bigger with displays, batteries into them and then I  realized that my iPhone is getting old. My device wasn’t really capable competing with the latest Smart phones.
Yesterday was the day when I reached a point where I couldn’t take it anymore. My iPhone’s battery wouldn’t last longer than an hour and a half on 3G network, I had to charge the device at least 3 times a day & that’s when I decided to just submit my iPhone to the authorized apple service center for the battery replacement and if possible I really wanted them to replace my iPhone as well.
So what were my other options? Yeah I didn’t think that through when I submitted my iPhone cause that was the only device or smartphone that I had. That’s when my mate lend me his old first generation moto G. It had its own little problems which is a whole lot of different story.
Present day : After syncing my google account on this phone and installing all the apps necessary and 10 hours later using moto G here is what I think of it “It’s different” There’s much more you can do with the device in terms of customization and how you want the feel and look of the device. This opens up loads of possibilities with what you can do with Android! For a start I really liked the way it handles apps installing cause you don’t really need to put your password every time you want to download an app! This stock keyboard just works. I liked how one app interacts with another when there are tons of sharing options to choose from. Another thing that makes me want to use the android device even more is the back button, yes I’m an iOS user and I never really needed that before but after using this device I think It’s going to be hard for me use my iPhone facing the fact that there’s no back button. It just makes navigation so easy.
Battery performance has and will always be my first priority. From 1450 mAh on my iPhone 5 to 2100 mAh on moto G doesn’t sound much of difference, does it? Well battery performance on this device is quite decent I mean I had 83% battery left on it before going to bed and after 2 hours of tune in radio use it came down to just 61%.
The verdict : So what does it take to switch from iOS to android device? Sense of reliability. Where iPhone taught me how things can simplified, android taught me all about customizations and how freely things can be tangled into one another and still make it work.

Samsung Galaxy Note Ⅳ

Undoubtedly Samsung Galaxy Note Ⅲ held the crown of being the king of smartphones for a very long time. For the first time a Korean manufactures did something different with the note series, leaving its plastic design behind it was time for Samsung to bring something new to the table. Samsung Galaxy note Ⅲ was all that with metallic bezels on the side and a leathery back with stitched boarders it did become more sophisticated and adopted much richer profile. As much as it looked beautiful from outside it was a beast from inside with its 5.7 inch AMOLED display and 2.3 GHz quad core processor and 3 GB RAM it was no less than a Godzilla. With an introduction of ‘S’ pen Samsung set new benchmark in phablet category.
Now, the most anticipated Samsung galaxy note 4 launch is just few hours away, and we’re here to unfold everything we know so far. Let’s get started.
From recent leaks what we have to know is that Samsung galaxy note 4 will be having 5.7 inch QHD display quite similar to what we’ve seen on LG G3 with the resolution of 2560×1440 and Corning gorilla glass 3. Qualcomm snapdragon 805 sOC is one of the major feature of note 4 which clocks at 2.5 GHz quad core with 3 GB RAM. According to the leaks there will be two different variants of Samsung galaxy note 4 one of which will be having 64 bit processor. There’s all new ‘S’ pen on its way. It’ll be interesting to see how the final product turns out to be.

iOS 8 what we know so far..

Apple Inc. Has done it again! WWDC 2014 was the event where Tim Cook unveiled iOS 8 to the attendees and developers all around the world. This was the moment, which decided the fate of Apple Inc.. and where it’s leading us with it’s refined work done on the software part. It takes an infinite amount of efforts to come up with something like this. We had a faint idea that iOS 8 will be based on the very structure of iOS 7, in many ways that’s what it is. We feel that iOS 8 is brushed and polished, more refined version of iOS 7.
So here’s some of iOS 8 features that you should know about

The brightest selling point of Apple products is how beautifully they work with one another. Whether it’s MacBook and iPad or an iPhone with an iMac, it just feels like you are using one device in different shapes and sizes. With their syncing ability these products are more powerful together. ‘Continuity’ feature takes it to a whole new level and here’s why. Imagine how nice would it be if you can start your work on one device and continue it later on another right where you left it. In another term you can save your valuable time by using Continuity which improves your work efficiency.

Interactive Notifications
Notifications in iOS 7 are quite similar to what you may have experienced in iOS 6 and iOS 5 however, with iOS 8 Apple wanted to change all that. In iOS 8 notifications will be interactive. So what does it mean? Let’s say you’ve got a text message from your friend which needs an immediate response, therefore all you have to do is to swipe left on the notification and as you do you are able to send quick reply and it works with any other app like Facebook, Twitter, whatsapp and even with stock apps like reminders, calendar. This way you don’t need to deviate from the app you are using currently.

Predictive keyboard
Apple had been overlooking this one feature despite the fact that android had it for many years. Predictive text is a no brainer really. It improves your typing efficiency, saves time and we don’t understand why Apple hadn’t really considered that one before. The ability to install 3rd party keyboards has always been a great advantage for Android users, but now With iOS 8 developers are allowed to install 3rd party keyboards such as swiftkey and fleskey. Indeed, it’s a welcoming feature.

Health Kit
With HealthKit, Apple had introduced APIs that unites all of the fitness apps under one roof so that you can track your health data from one place. We think that one device alone can not gather much data and therefore an accessory would come handy, and by that we are indicating to an iWatch which said to be coming by the end of this year.

What to expect from iPhone 6

With iPhone 6 launch is just a month away and before you start queuing outside of apple stores, here’s what you need to know.

We’ve been assessing iPhone 6 rumours as it started floating on the internet for the past few months and now it’s time to catch up with current speculations.
As pre-informed the company is going to hold iPhone 6 event on September 9, it is said to be the biggest launch yet. Apple said to be launching not one but two new iPhones this year with different screen sizes one in 4.7 inches & 5.5 inches. Looks like apple has given people something new to talk about. Samsung has a long series of smartphones with BIG screens and now time just feels right for apple to snatch the crown of best smartphone once again.
The iPhone 6 has been most talked releases this year. With iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C approaching their first birthday apple followers looking for the next iPhone.
This year things are looking different as rumoured apple has got new hardware for iPhone 6 which said to be sport a 2 Ghz A8 quad core processor with 2 Gb RAM including NFC to the list which We’re a bit skeptical about as apple seemed very uninterested in having NFC technology implemented in any of their devices.
iPhone 6 is also said to have sapphire glass display which is super durable material than the gorilla glass they have on current iPhones and iPads. From what we’ve learned so far that iPhone 6 will have much thinner profile than it’s predecessor. The battery capacity has been increased for 4.7 inch iPhone 2100 mAh and 2800 mAh for 5.5 inch iPhone.
So far we’ve told you everything we know, what we don’t is what will it be called? iPhone 6 ? The next iPhone? The new iPhone? What will be the price in India? We will keep you updated as soon as we know more.

The Moral Cost of Travel

Cody Delistraty

It was in Paradise Lost that John Milton introduced the notion that Adam and Eve ate an apple from the Tree of Knowledge (thus explaining why your “knowledgeable” elementary school teachers may have had the infamous symbol sitting on their desks). The writers of Genesis left the forbidden fruit unspecified, but scholars have since claimed it could have been a grape, possibly a fig, even a pomegranate. Whatever it was exactly, the first Biblical book is clear that its consumption is the ultimate sin — and ever since the Western world has equated knowledge with a loss of innocence. Banned from Eden, the original sinners were also the original knowledge seekers, and the idea that understanding means corruption is widespread — oft-seen in dubiously well-known phrases like “Ignorance is bliss.”

Throughout history, innocence has been lost when new knowledge is gained, and the most common way for that to happen is by…
